Speaking of performers you’ve never heard of…

Speaking of performers you’ve never heard of…

This Onion cartoon, given to me by a friend, really cracked me up:

Why? You don’t get it? That’s ok, most don’t. But did you like Loony Tunes? Tom & Jerry? How about "A Fish Called Wanda", or Monty Python, or…or…the fact is, the Commedia dell’Arte is the root of all Western comedy. And some Eastern, as well, but not so much.
The Capitano, Scaramouche, was always my favorite–a bombastic warrior full of fake bravado who was full of tales of heroism but always seemed to disappear when the actual foe appears. The Dottore was also a fun one, full of …read more

Last Comic Standing: Good-bye Roz

Last Comic Standing: Good-bye Roz

This week in The Last Comic Standing we said good-bye to Roz.  A very funny woman, but I think the loud, screaming delivery is only tolerable for so long.  We are down to four…go Josh and Chris.
Stay tuned next Tuesday at 9pm EST for The Last Comic Standing on NBC.

The Last Comic Standing: On-Line Comic Contest

The Last Comic Standing: On-Line Comic Contest

In conjunction with the episodes taking place on TV for The Last Comic Standing, there has been an on-line contest for comedians who did not make it on the The Queen Mary.  The contest gives one a chance to perform in the TV finale.
My favorite is Nikki Payne. I was shocked when she didn’t it make it to the boat.  At least now she has a chance.  Go here to see the comics and place your vote.

Last Comic Standing: Episode 8

Last Comic Standing: Episode 8

Chris Porter from The Last Comic Standing
We are now down to our 5 final comics and episode 8 was a chance to take a good look at our comedians.  They are all funny, but I think the two finalists will be Chris Porter and Josh Blue.  Who are your favorites?  Who do you think will be leaving us this week?
Stay tuned every Tuesday on NBC at 9pm EST for The Last Comic Standing.

Last Comic Standing: Episode 7

Last Comic Standing: Episode 7

In an amazing turn of events, we lose not two, but three comics.  Gabriel is asked to leave early on in the show, because he is caught breaking a rule.  He gets caught talking to his girlfriend on the his Blackberry.  Unbelievable he is tries to hide it under a pillow while in front of a producer and on camera. One of the rules is that you can not have contact with the outside.  They are allowed one phone call a week and it is monitored.  They do that because they do not want information leaking out or jokes leaking in.  Gabriel took it …read more

Kathy Griffin Talks With Larry King

Kathy Griffin Talks With Larry King

Tuesday night Kathy Griffin spent an hour with Larry King.  Either he has never watched her act or he has a good sense of self-deprecating humor.  They actually chatted a little about her act…and her comments about him, and it’s the latter, otherwise this would be yet another talk show she was banned from.
She spent a little time talking about her divorce, her show The D-List, her web-site (she’s right, her boards are a gay dating service) and her trip to Iraq.
Go to CNN.com to read the transcript and don’t miss Kathy Griffin on Bravo every Tuesday night.  Check your local …read more

Kathy Griffin Entertains the Troops

Kathy Griffin Entertains the Troops

Kathy Griffin took her Life on the D-List, along with friends Karri Turner from JAG and Mike McDonald from Mad TV, and went to entertain the troops.  The episode was not only funny but very moving.  If you missed it check out the D-List website for videos, recaps and photos.  You can also always catch replays on Bravo.  Also take a peek at her website for pictures from her trip to Iraq and don’t miss the next episode on Tuesday night at 9:00pm.

The Last Comic Standing: Episode 6

Eliminated Comic “Bill Dwyer”

Eliminated Comic “Joey Gay”
This week on The Last Comic Standing was just pure fun.  We tossed the tension overboard (Stella) and we finally got to see what comics do best…be funny.
Everyone has a lot of respect for each other, and they should.  I hate high drama when it is unnecessary and this is one of those occasions that I want to laugh not feel like I am getting ready to referee a fight.
I thought this week’s challenge was difficult.  Of course, I am not one who is able to think on my toes too well.  I actually have to put a lot …read more

Last Comic Standing: Episode 5

Eliminated Comic “Stella”

Eliminated Comic “April Macie”
Episode 5 of NBC’s The Last Comic Standing waved a fond farewell to April Macie and a “I thought that she would never leave” to Stella.
We began our voyage on the Queen Mary where the cast will be living together until they are hoisted overboard.  Sorry for the oceanic metaphors.  I will try to control myself.
The challenge for our comics this week was to heckle each other.  The audience would choose two winners, the best heckler and the best comedian.  These two people received immunity for the week.
We, of course, had to have drama…it is …read more
