Soundtrack of the Day” Goes Broadway

by Gray on April 15th, 2008

My colleagues over at the Music channel have been running a “Soundtrack of the Day” series, where various music bloggers will list songs that they carry with them through the day. I thought of my iPod, and the things on it that make me think of the Great White Way. Here’s the top 5:

  1. Loathing from Wicked:  would have loved to see how these two performers made this work.
  2. Money, Money from Cabaret: My secret passion is to be Joel Grey or Alan Cumming in a future life.
  3. Downtown from Little Shop of Horrors: having been poor…all my life I’ve always been poor…I keep asking Go what I’m for…yeah, this piece got me through many a lean time.
  4. No Day But Today from Rent: This one is just plain inspiring, and the layering choruses combined with the story they tell make it unbelievably powerful.
  5. I Dreamed a Dream from Les Mis: a piece of the soundtrack to my divorce. “But the tigers come at night…” always makes me shiver.

Now, these are old tunes, and classic tunes, and frankly there’s a lot of newer stuff out there - Avenue Q and Spamalot (oh, I should add “I’m All Alone” to the mix!) and…and…what show tunes are on YOUR ipod?
