P Diddy’s Raisin in the Sun - A Journey by a New Renaissance Man
I confess, I have as much trouble as anyone taking seriously someone named P Diddy - but Sean Combs seems to be the king of re-invention, going from rapper to clothing designer to yes, Broadway actor.
In 2004 he starred in the revival of Lorraine Hansberry’s classic, Raisin in the Sun, which garnered Tony awards for co-stars
While Combs’ acting skills were deemed less than stellar, even his harshest critics give him credit for taking on this kind of challenging work, and further kudos should be given by the fact that he also helped bankroll the tonight’s production on ABC as co-executive producer. I think they’re too harsh - it’s kind of like the defense of Mel Gibson’s Hamlet: if you’re only so-so at one of the hardest, most powerful roles out there, that’s still pretty damn good.

I was positively astounded at the heart felt performence of Sean P diddy combs in this TV production of A Rasin in the Sun. His rich, sincere and even talented performance gave me new hopes for his, what I thought was far gone, humanity. Before now, I have only seen him portray himself as a luke warm singer/rapper with a lot huff and puff. It seems he is best at womanizing and styling and profiling. His performance renewed my hopes that there is something more to his infamous self-indulgent persona.

As explained by Juan Perez over on Highbrid Nation, Raisin in the Sun is doing big things. It is a made for television movie that they are promoting with a major release budget for DVD. For those, like myself, who missed it the first time around you can now see Diddy giving and Oscar worthy performance…well not really, lol.
