Exploring Confinement
Using various imagery, most recently inspired by ‘the veil’, this piece has been a yearlong exploration of confinement to the space, to the body, to sight, to time itself. I combine the pure narrative & rhythmic quality of Kathak(north Indian classical dance form) with yoga & modern dance techniques aiming to create a fluid and dynamic visual aesthetic for the viewer inviting you to my 20 minute dialogue with his Cello
The process since March 07:
- 6 min set solo set to “alaap” composed by Indian jazz musician/friend Amit Heri (Bangalore India)
- A duet with Hindusatani vocalist of Seattle, Shahana Dattagupta : – Our vocabularies were, her notes (S G R D N S) set to the raga (melody) Bhageshree & my moving body. We spent 3 months/ 3 performances intensely conversing our ideas and images about confinement purely relying on improvisation
- Video installation project @ Seattle’s south Asian independent film festival  ; Video clip : “Confined as an installation/Confined work-in-progress
The project explored the moving body within a confined space. As the audience, you watch through the TV, the camcorder, live. Are you confined visually?

Bring friends and family to Seattle’s Winter Fest 2007 and enjoy the festive holiday mood! Lot of exciting performances and events!
