Lisa O’Hare shows us around Mary Poppins in London

Special thanks to my friend Nyxx for sending me this link to a great interview/backstage tour given by Lisa O’Hare when she was doing Mary Poppins in London.

Secret confession time: right up there with Eliza’s Dad, the EmCee from Cabaret, and the Pirate King, I’ve always wanted to play Bert…

Question: My daughter tells me that “Dancing With the Stars” is really lame compared to SYTYCD. But is it worth covering here? Would it qualify as “fine arts?

Your question is interesting. I don’t even think DWTS is really about dance; it’s more about people getting a kind of makeover, except instead of a cosmetic or home makeover or whatnot, they’re learning to become elegant and charming ballroom dancers. To me it’s fun since I struggle so hard to do the same kind of thing. SYTYCD is more of a real dance show since it’s about people who already have dance talent being the best they can be. I’m not sure it showcases dance as a fine art, but I think people who watch it can be led to view dance as an art. At least I think so. I’m hopeful anyway.
