The B5Media network:

Would you buy a Bamboo Flute from this woman?

Ginger, CEO of Sound Creations, the Bard's Music ShopHell yeah!

In fact, I almost bought a travelers saxophone. Go ahead, click on the page, and listen to the MP3 file of the sound of the sax. Now, remember that you are listening to it through a dinky little computer, and trust me that in person, you can feel the sound reverberating in your chest. I could not believe the sound of these things when Ginger played it for me, and winced as she pounded the instrument against the counter to prove its durability.

Of course, part of my attraction is the fact that it reminded me of a Krumhorn, which is an instrument of the double-reeded variety that was so vile as to have no extant working models from the period in which it was played. Of course, we’ve recreated them in our era, and musicologists have faithfully determined that the proper tone is almost exactly that of a duck being strangled.

Much fun.  A college roommate of mine was the daughter of a professor of Early Music, and as an afficionado we acquired the use of a full consort – that is, bass, tenor, alto, and soprano models. So we ranged in sound from large Montana ducks to cute little fuzzy ducklings, all slowly dying as we worked our way through Holborn.

Ah, the wild days of my misspent youth…
