Tania Isaac coming to Madison

One of the neatest things about being an alum from a major university dance program is that sometimes some of the people you got to know "way back when" go on to be incredible successes.

As part of the UW-Madison Dance Program’s 80th Anniversary Gala, Tania Isaac is doing a one-week residency. She’s putting a dance on several students, as well as being a featured performer at the project.

I’ve watched Tania in class, in rehearsal, and in performance, and the woman is a primal force of nature. The thing about it is, her grace and focus extend beyond the dance you see in performance; she has an easy smile and even at the end of a grueling 8 hour rehearsal on tour she was always ready with a friendly remark for the crew.

Her site doesn’t have any video on it (I’ll have to see if I can fix any of that during the upcoming performances) but you can find out a wealth of other information about her there:

"Originally from St. Lucia, West Indies, Tania is currently based in Philadelphia, PA where she continues to explore the esthetic, kinesiologic, cultural, political bases of contemporary dance. Her work has been presented at venues throughout the U.S., England and the Caribbean and is also a part of Urban Bushwomen Repertory in “Soul Deep to the Bone”. Her collaborative video work has been screened at the ADF Dancing for the Camera Festival of International Film and Video Dance in North Carolina, at the International Festival of Video Dance, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and at the Prince Theater in Philadelphia."
