Back to work…
With merely minutes left in my vacation, I’m getting back to the regular postings here, unfortunately with a bit of an apology.
Namely, I was listening to one of the podcasts that I recommended, the Common Tone podcast, which is supposed to be about classical music. Now, it really is about classical music…but it’s mainly with the talking and talking of a couple of old friends, occasionally discussing esoteric aspects of music theory.
Nothing wrong with that. They are quite pleasant, and knowledgeable, but they really don’t address the direct performative aspects of the arts.
No, for music I would recommend the very thing I’m listening to as I write this–the Irish and Celtic Music podcast. Sea chanties, Uilean pipes, even a tune about hobbits, it’s like a radio station that has great music, a friendly DJ, and no commercials. Can you believe it?
Next I’ll be reviewing a podcast I found linked from my very own blog ads, the Scene Interactive podcast, and also a podcast of live music from my hometown, Up the Downstair.

Hi there and thank you kindly for having recommended Common Tone way back when. Yes, we are a bit…..chatty, for a podcast purporting to be about classical music, and having dusted off the gear and plugged everything back into the wall, we’re ready to pick up where we left off in 2005. With even less music. It’s all about BMI and ASCAP and mechanical licenses and other things composers love to talk about.
But we’ll be funnier. There’s something to be said for that. Best wishes, Fame Or Famine –Dave Gaines
