24601 – Who Am I? – Part 1

24601 – Who Am I? – Part 1

A little Krissy history
I was thinking to myself last night that anyone looking for information on the world of Performing Arts is bound to wonder who I am to be reporting. After all, I gave it up. Why should anyone bother reading what I have to say about anything PA?
It has occurred to me that maybe I should report a bit more on where I am in my life and the choices that I made, as well as how I got to them. I feel I owe you an explanation. The problem is, I’m not entirely …read more

Blog of the week – Carpe Diem the Life of an Actress

Blog of the week – Carpe Diem the Life of an Actress

This week we feature another acting Blog, but this time the blogger is a woman. Visit Carpe Diem – the Life of an Actress. The blogger’s name is Audry Walker.
One thing I have learned from all of this, is confidence. I have more of it since starting my acting career. It’s great. I realize things more. Instead of focusing on how many auditions I didn’t get the part for, I focus on the fact that every casting director/director that I have auditioned for has gone out of their way to make positive comments on …read more

Celebrity Sighting – Jennifer Aniston and Josh

Celebrity Sighting – Jennifer Aniston and Josh

To appreciate this story, you have to know Josh. Josh is a friend of mine who is just too good-looking for his own safety. He’s young and he has a dangerous rock-star persona, as well as being sweet to boot. He also prides himself on remaining unruffled in the face of what would normally ruffle people.
He was the base guitarist in the (now defunct) punk band, Dead Electric, and was always the first choice of publishers as the main photo. He recently oversaw a new gallery opening in Chicago and, by all accounts, got rave reviews.
You …read more

Ralph’s World – Show Review

Ralph’s World – Show Review

Some time ago at the Children’s Books, Toys and Things blog here at AboutWeblogs.com, Hsien posted about children’s music. I posted that Ralph’s World is a great musical start for little ones; in no small part because the music is more than slightly palatable for the older generation as well.
Ralph works with real musical instruments and his songs often have a grownup undertone to them. I’d tell you which ones, but it’s more fun trying to guess. Ralph is an accomplished musician and if you’ve ever heard of The Bad Examples, he also heads that band.
While it’s …read more

Picking Scabs – Blue Man Group Non-Union

Picking Scabs – Blue Man Group Non-Union

A few months ago my husband and I saw a billboard for the Blue Man Group. I was excitedly telling him about the show I saw and how much fun it was, when he turned to me and said, darkly and quietly,
“Scabs.”
…”Beg pardon?”
“Scabs. Non-union. They’re all non-union. They don’t want to pay union rates. The show is filled with scabs.”

Obviously, as individuals who rely on my husband’s salary to keep us going, we have opinions about contractors who use non-union performers and musicians, and, Fabulous Reader, these opinions are not good. They …read more

Q: When you decided to look at colleges, what were you looking for?
A:Now THAT is a funny question. You always think you know what you want when you are 18 and looking at schools. Oy, that is total crap.

Coupling – Lost

Coupling – Lost

without the curly-headed weirdo.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Britcom Coupling, you’re missing a hell of a show. At least you were before Richard Coyle left.
The quick description would be that It’s like a naughtier, funnier Friends.
Unfortunately, now that Richard’s gone and Jeff is no longer on the programme, it’s turned into a bunch of whiney losers, well, whining at each other. That little “touch o’ insanity” has left the show.
Is it possible that Richard suddenly had a moment of revelation where he realized that fifty years from now he’ll be walking down the street, …read more

All My Sons – Oak Park Festival Theatre – Review

All My Sons – Oak Park Festival Theatre – Review

Okay, kids; there is something going on in Oak Park, Illinois, that you should really be aware of. There is currently a theatre production there that is worth more than the price you pay to get in.
“But can it be??”, you bellow, “How on earth…?”, but it’s true. I paid $20 to get into a show last night that would have been an enjoyable steal at $30. And I’m a cheap bitch when it comes to entertainment, so you know I mean it.
Arthur Miller’s All My Sons is a dark play about the failures of …read more

ABC’s Brat Camp – Disgusting

ABC’s Brat Camp – Disgusting

I wrote last week on the delightful romp that was Beauty and the Geek. My main point was that anyone involved in so-called “reality” television is a person who is selling out and is, by definition, not part of reality. Beauty and the Geek makes no bones about what it is, and embraces the voyeuristic nature of its programming.
As an example of what not to do, Brat Camp takes the motherfudging cake.
Basically the plotline is that out-of-control, troubled kids get dumped in the wilderness and have to fight their way out with people trained to …read more
